Dr. Sandra Hoogerwerf graduated cum laude with a Doctorate of Medicine from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. She subsequently completed her internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland and her clinical gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. In addition, she completed a gastroenterological research fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Michael Herman

Dr. Herman received a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the University of Florida, Master of Science in neuroscience from Florida State University and his medical degree at Nova Southeastern in Davie, Florida. After completing his training in internal medicine at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, he was stationed at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville for four years where he served as an internist and the department head of consultative medical services. Ketul Patel
Ketul Patel ,
Dr. Ketul Patel attended the University of Florida where he enrolled in the premedical sciences and completed a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He then entered AUC School of Medicine, from which he received his Doctorate in Medicine. Dr. Patel completed his internal medicine residency, as well as his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship, in Southfield, Michigan. Upon completing his fellowship, he joined Borland Groover in August 2012.
Anand Patel

Dr. Patel served as assistant professor of medicine at the University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville before joining Borland Groover. After receiving a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in Scotland, Dr. Patel completed his internal medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He then went on to complete his fellowship in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at the University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.
Vikram Gopal

Dr. Gopal is a rare Jacksonville native. He was born and raised on Jacksonville’s Westside. After graduating from Stanton College Preparatory School, Dr. Gopal attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia for his Bachelor of Science in Biology. In the summer of 1996, Dr. Gopal was one of four inductees into the Emory University College Hall of Fame, the highest honor bestowed upon an Emory graduate. He continued on to Emory University’s School of Medicine. While in medical school, Dr. Gopal was selected for the 2000 Evangeline T. Papageorge Award for outstanding service to his class.
William Foody

Dr. Foody is a military veteran that has served in both the United States Navy, and the United States Air Force. While serving in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Foody was active duty on the USS Iowa BB-61, in Norfolk, Virginia, and served in the Navy Reserve until 1989, when he joined the Health Professions Scholarship Program in the U.S. Air Force at the Medical College of Virginia.
Mark Fleisher
Mark Fleisher ,
Dr. Fleisher came to Borland Groover in 1998. Dr. Fleisher completed his medical training at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Dr. Fleisher has published and presented at national meetings on new treatments in the management of inflammatory bowel disease. He is presently studying new treatment agents in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and is an active speaker nationally in IBD. In addition, he started the first annual meeting for patients in the Jacksonville area suffering with IBD. Dr. Fleisher is the director of Borland Groover's Infusion Center.
Kyle Etzkorn
Kyle Etzkorn ,
After completing his fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Texas Health Science Center/MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Etzkorn completed an advanced fellowship in hepato-biliary medicine at the University of Illinois Hospital where he trained in advanced therapeutic procedures and the management of liver transplant patients.
George Nassar
George Nassar ,
Dr. George Nassar, M.D. is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Dr. Nassar graduated from the Universite Libanaise, Beirut in 1997 and finished his residency at Staten Island University Hospital, New York and fellowship at SUNY Downstate Brooklyn, New York in 2006. He has been practicing medicine for over 17 years.
In addition to general gastroenterology, Dr. Nassar’s main clinical focus is on advanced and interventional endoscopy, including diagnosing and treating pancreaticobiliary diseases and gastrointestinal malignancies.

Dr. Elhajj received his internal medicine degree from Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, New York, and completed his gastroenterology fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York. Dr Elhajj joined our practice in 2008.
