Electronic Transition of Care Documents

Launched in March 2010 as a part of the Nationwide Health Information Network, the Direct Project was created to specify a simple, secure, scalable, standards-based way to send authenticated, encrypted health information directly to known, trusted recipients over the internet. This will benefit physicians and patients alike, streamlining and speeding up communication and information sharing of patient medical data, which will simultaneously fulfill the Meaningful Use requirement of electronic transition of care documents.
