Anglers for a cure is a local inshore fishing tournament to raise awareness to the importance of getting a colonoscopy. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 29, at the Vilano Boat Ramp at first light.
The event benefits the Borland Groover Foundation which continues to help those who may not have the means to receive a colonoscopy and further educate and raise awareness to colon cancer.
Anglers for a Cure was co-founded by teen anglers and longtime friends Jordan Carroll and Matt Hahnemann in 2006 after Jordan's father, Doug Carroll, was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer in late 2004. The young men sought to combine their love of fishing with a fierce dedication to helping find a cure a disease which claims the lives of over 50,000 Americans each year. Jordan's beloved dad passed away just two weeks after the inaugural Anglers For a Cure Tournament, knowing his family and friends would continue to raise awareness and further research and education.
