Gastroenterologist

Dr. Ponniah is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician and Gastroenterologist originally from Toronto, Canada. He pursued his medical training at the University of Florida, Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he completed both Internal Medicine residency and fellowship in Gastroenterology/Hepatology. Prior to this, he also completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Oklahoma and practiced as an Academic Hospitalist for several years at UF Health Shands Hospital. During his fellowship, Dr. Ponniah was appointed Chief Fellow and inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for his dedication to patient care. He has also been the recipient of various awards as a clinical educator, authored a book chapter, and published in various clinical journals.

Due to this broad scope of clinical training, Dr. Ponniah is an advocate for delivering comprehensive and patient-centered care. He is interested in the medical and endoscopic management of all gastrointestinal disorders, including upper GI tract disease, GI cancers, and disorders of the liver, pancreas, and small and large intestines

Outside of medicine, Dr. Ponniah is an avid sports fan and enjoys playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with his family. Dr. Ponniah is excited to serve the Jacksonville community and is graciously accepting new patients.
