Jaundice

Yellowing of the skin or eyes may indicate an underlying problem involving the liver, bile ducts, gallbladder, or pancreas. Jaundice may also be associated with dark urine, pale stools, itching, fatigue, abdominal discomfort, or unexplained weight loss.

Because some causes of jaundice require urgent treatment, prompt evaluation is important. Gallstones, hepatitis, bile duct obstruction, cirrhosis, and pancreatic disease are among the more common conditions evaluated through blood work, imaging, endoscopy, and specialized pancreaticobiliary procedures.
