Abdominal Pain

Abdominal pain can have many different causes, ranging from mild digestive irritation to more complex conditions involving the stomach, intestines, gallbladder, pancreas, liver or esophagus. Some patients experience cramping or bloating after meals, while others develop persistent discomfort, pressure, burning or sharp pain that interferes with daily life.

Because the pattern and location of pain often provide important clues, evaluation is tailored to each patient’s symptoms and medical history. In some cases, abdominal pain may be related to ulcers, gallstones, inflammation, infection, motility disorders or functional gastrointestinal conditions. Diagnostic testing may include imaging, laboratory studies, endoscopy or specialized gastrointestinal evaluation depending on the clinical picture.
