Melanie N. Cabezas, M.D., is a board-certified gastroenterologist with Borland Groover who brings advanced fellowship training in endoscopy, along with a strong background in clinical research. She completed an advanced endoscopy fellowship at Duke University Hospital after completing her gastroenterology fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where she served as chief fellow. She previously completed her internal medicine residency at Duke University Hospital.
Dr. Cabezas earned her medical degree from the University of Virginia and her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida. Her academic path combines a foundation in engineering with extensive medical training in internal medicine, gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy.
Her academic work includes peer-reviewed publications and national presentations spanning digestive and liver health, including colorectal cancer screening, pancreatic disease, liver transplantation and advanced endoscopic treatment. At Digestive Disease Week in 2024, she presented research on advanced endoscopic treatment of tumors in the esophagus and stomach. Her research has also been presented at the American College of Gastroenterology Annual Meeting and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases Annual Meeting.
Dr. Cabezas is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both gastroenterology and internal medicine. She holds an active Florida medical license and is a native speaker of both English and Spanish.
