Matthew A. Heckroth, M.D., is a gastroenterologist with Borland Groover. A Florida native, Dr. Heckroth earned his medical degree magna cum laude from St. George’s University School of Medicine and concluded his internal medicine residency at the University of Louisville. He then pursued his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Dr. Heckroth possesses extensive training across gastroenterology, hepatology and internal medicine, with a research portfolio encompassing colonoscopy quality, liver disease, esophageal disorders, gastroparesis, and inflammatory bowel disease. His
contributions to the field include numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations, notably earning recognition as an American College of Gastroenterology Outstanding Poster Presenter in 2020.
A former collegiate baseball team captain, Dr. Heckroth applies his leadership experience to his roles in medical education, resident research, and service-focused health programs.
