Dr. Matthew Heckroth is originally from Tallahassee, Florida. He grew up playing baseball and played for two years before a shoulder injury redirected his path toward medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, earned his medical degree from St. George’s University, completed his residency at the University of Louisville where he served as Chief Resident, and then completed his Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Dr. Heckroth specializes in the evaluation and management of a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), esophageal and swallowing disorders, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), colorectal cancer screening, and general digestive health.
He is passionate about providing thoughtful, patient-centered gastroenterology care and is excited to serve patients throughout the Jacksonville community. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, staying active through fitness, traveling, and cheering on his favorite sports teams.
